The problem with that, though, is that not everyone can do that or if they do, they're not giving their manuscripts enough time.

As hard as it is to be a writer without a contract, the upside is that this writer can take the time necessary to let their work ripen, as you say.Melanie Lynne Hauserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11055821002829238757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9117689460622632628.post-9975890290408405802008-07-15T08:54:00.000-05:002008-07-15T08:54:00.000-05:00Joanne--Yes, definitely, yes, the characters were ...Joanne--Yes, definitely, yes, the characters were there, just below the surface sometimes, and I'd catch myself thinking about them when I was least expecting to.Judy Merrill Larsenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06675069484490433295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9117689460622632628.post-21213477218585098612008-07-15T08:42:00.000-05:002008-07-15T08:42:00.000-05:00Judy, this post is so true. It's the best thing you've ever written. Send it out and it's a boomerang. Back at you for the "ripening" time. I'm on my fourth draft of the book I'm working on. Every time I think it's finished, it sits, I go back, and yuk! Did I write that? Yes, I did, and yes, I can make it better. I love your word . . . ripening . . . except as how it applies to age. That's more like two week old bananas.Bev Marshallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14604949116512255907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9117689460622632628.post-26741383981655290112008-07-14T22:52:00.000-05:002008-07-14T22:52:00.000-05:00Judy, I have been procrastinating like crazy on my...Judy, I have been procrastinating like crazy on my revision.
